Reportage after our Folkbeats concert:

The members of this ensemble have been learning Hungarian folk music and folk instruments since 1996 in the Cimbora Folk Music Workshop in Pécel. They play authentic Hungarian folk music and folk-based musical settings selected from all Hungarian language areas and they also perform songs connected to national customs or national festivals. On their concerts, performing folk music, with approximately 4-5 hours of repertoire they play 15 different instruments. Besides Hungarian they also play South Slavic, Romanian, Gipsy and German songs. The ensemble considers popularizing the authentic instrumental and sung Hungarian folk music as a mission whether at stage performances or at dances.
They take part in festivals permanently, have a lot of radio or television recordings. They have won numerous prizes for their activity. Since 2004 they have been organising dances where they teach folk children’s game and Moldavian dances.
In 2009 they organised a series of ethnic festivals called ’Future of Europe Begins In Families’ where the ensemble and some Slovakian, Greek, South Slavic and German musicians presented the culture, the music and the dances of Hungarian ethnic groups by playing Hungarian, Gipsy and South Slavic melodies.
They had performances in Italy, Slovakia, Germany and also in West Siberian Hanti Manysi Autonomic Area. Their repertoire and membership have renewed in the last year. Looking for a new musical move they are also playing Balkan music these days and they are opening to world music.
