László Kovács graduated at instrument-producing faculty of Kaesz Gyula Woodwork Secondary Vocational School as a cimbalom-producer in 1987. He worked in the cimbalom-workshop of Kozmosz Industrial co-op for a short period of time then he got a job in the Folk Music Collection of the Ethnographic Museum as an instrument-restorer in 1989. He got qualification as a general object-restorer in 1991. Since 1999 he has been producing folk instruments, mainly zithers in his own workshop in addition to his activity as a folk musician and teacher. His instruments have been given jury-number by the Council of Arts and Crafts.
Currently he is producing of zithers in five versions: The “trough
“ zither, the “trough “ zither with 1 small head, the Zither “with small heads”, the “paunchy” zither, and the "small-bass" zither - for orchestras and soloists, in prime and tenor - in closed and in open version in all tunings and sizes.

The “trough
“ zither
I recommend the simple “trough
“ zither for institutions teaching beginner zitherists (eg. schools of music or art schools) and beginner zitherists, where student having learnt the basics of playing the zither plan to obtain their own more seriously executed instruments for further studying or orchestral playing. It is most frequently made in G-C or E-A tuning…

ahol a tanuló, miután megtanulta a citerajáték alapjait, a további tanuláshoz, ill. zenekari játékhoz saját, komolyabb kivitelezésű hangszer beszerzését tervezi.
Leggyakrabban G-C, ill. E-A hangolásban készül

The “trough “ zither with 1 small head
|
|
I recommend the “trough “ zither with 1 small head for kindergartens, music schools or beginner zither students. Plucking the C note on the small head gives an opportunity to acquire the ornament, too.
The format of this instrument constitutes a transition between a learning instruments and a professional one, it hardly falls behind the Zither
“with small heads” with sound or opportunities. |
|
A hangszer kivitelezése átmenetet képez a tanulóhangszer és profi hangszerek között, hangzásában, lehetőségeiben nem sokkal marad el a kisfejes citerától.
